May 24, 2018 | News

Peace and Sport is very grateful to Maha Aziz family and friends for their contribution to the “Live Together” program in Za’atari refugee camp, Jordan. Thanks to their support through the Aziz Abid Fund, the “Live Together” program will hire a local coordinator for a better implementation of the sport activities on the field.

The program is run by Peace and Sport in cooperation with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), and involves a host of organizations, each contributing with their specific expertise and assets to the smooth and safe implementation of sustainable sport for development and peace activities within the camp. Moreover, the IRD (International Relief and Development), NGOs operating in the camp, Jordanian National Olympic Committee, National Federations and Jordanian authorities are involved in the program. It aims to address educational, social and developmental needs of refugees of all ages through sport by applying the Sport Simple Solutions (SSS) methodology and to increase the quality and quantity of sport activities in refugee camps.

So far, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), the Fédération Internationale de Teqball (FITEQ) and World Association of Kick-boxing Organizations (WAKO) have conducted coaching seminars for refugees. During each coaching seminar, Peace and Sport integrates a part on peace building and on the Sport Simple Solutions methodology, focused on enhancing certain values through specific sport exercises. 85 refugees (men and women) have been trained so far to become coaches in the 3 sports and 205 children benefited from sport activities.

To support Peace and Sport activities on the field, do not hesitate to donate here.
