Mobilizing Tourism Ministers at Expo 2017 in Astana

Sport can make a powerful contribution to tourism, and sport tourism is a good opportunity to promote peace. For this reason, Peace and Sport, the politically-neutral organisation aimed at promoting sport as a tool for peace will attend Expo in Astana, Kazakhstan on 14th and 15th July. Peace and Sport will address an audience of Ministers on the potential of sport to foster sustainable peace and sustainable tourism.

The on-site Monaco pavilion will host Peace and Sport for a press conference on Friday and a presentation on Saturday, in partnership with Monaco’s tourism Office. For Frederique Hardy, Peace and Sport’s International Development Manager: “Tourism is a way to strengthen the role of sport as a tool for peace through social interactions between people and through leisure activities.”

This will be an inspiring occasion where delegates can exchange ideas on the role of sport in sustainable peace and development. Topics on the agenda include sport as an innovative means to attract tourism in the city and make a positive impact on vulnerable communities.

The International Specialized Exhibition “Astana EXPO-2017” brings together 100 countries and more than 10 international organizations. The main objective of the exhibition is to appeal for responsibility, discussion, and to develop knowledge enabling people and governments to act for sustainable development. It is expected that the exhibition will be visited by 2 million tourists, and the total number of visits will be about 5 million. The International Specialized Exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana will open on June 10, 2017 and will end on September 10, 2017.”
