Peace and Sport signs MOU with two ‘Act for what Matters’ 2016 project-winners

Jun 7, 2017 | News

Peace And Sport is overjoyed to announce the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding  with two ‘Act for what Matters’ 2016 project-winners: Sacred Sports Foundation Inc.(SSF), located in Saint Lucia, and Many Hands One Nation (MAHON), based in Timor Leste.

Mr. Joël Bouzou, Peace and Sport President and Founder declared: “Peace and Sport is pleased to keep supporting sport for development and peace field-programs from two completely different geographical areas. These two initiatives are working towards advancing youth development and social change through sport”.

Sacred Sports Foundation Inc.(SSF)’s conflict resolution programme is designed to share with the youth participants a system for resolving conflicts in key troubled areas in Saint Lucia and elsewhere in the Caribbean. With its conflict-resolution tool box, the programme uses classroom and game situations to help youth tackling situations they face and being able to choose the appropriate response. A critical component of the programme is the training of youth mentors in formulating appropriate conflict resolutions, which will fit in the youth leadership programme pathway.

Many Hands One Nation (MAHON) leads a Sport for Peace project in the border of Indonesia and Timor-Leste with marginalized children and youth. MAHON also teaches them life values such as respect and tolerance. Educators work with up to 200 children and youth on a regular basis. MAHON also runs programs with children affected by poverty in Dili, the capital of Timor Leste.

‘Act for What Matters’ is a yearly call for projects and ideas which support and complement efforts in the development of peace through sport and fit into the vision and Peace and Sport’s Field Program strategy.
