Peace and Sport France launches the “Sport Workshops”

Oct 13, 2016 | News

On Tuesday 11 October, Peace and Sport France launched the ‘Sport Workshops’ concept in Melun, Seine-et-Marne (77). This pilot program will initially be implemented as part of the French government’s Jobs Guarantee program for young people, in partnership with Mission Employment-Insertion Melun Val de Seine.
The figurehead of this first event, Champion for Peace Muriel Hurtis, was present at the workshop to talk about the positive values that the sport has given her.
Born in Seine-Saint-Denis, the World Athletics Champion took the time to tell the audience about her choices in life and so inspire everyone present.

The “Sport Workshops”:

Peace and Sport wants to bring its expertise in sport to create social networks so that it acts as a vehicle for social integration and professional insertion in France using an original model: Peace and Sport France’s “Sport Workshops”.
The target audience are considered as being in-between social and/or professional occupations, especially young people classed as NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). Nearly 1.9 million under 26 year-olds in France are in this situation.

The “Sport Workshops” (climbing, boxing and rugby) aim to put the values of sport at the service of individual socio-professional projects, thus meeting 2 major aims:
• To use the positive effects of structured physical exercise to develop skills useful for working life,
• To help people to develop their own career development projects, assisted by employment counsellors.
