Social Business Day: Sport for a more fair society

Aug 1, 2017 | News

On the occasion of the Social Business Day held on 28 and 29 July in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Peace and Sport highlighted the role of sport for social cohesion and for reducing inequalities. Mr. Joël Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport, addressed the following topic ” Can Wealth Concentration Be Stopped?” illustrating the role of sport in promoting peace and social cohesion through the use of concrete examples.

Monsieur Joël Bouzou affirmed:  “Everyone should have the right to practice sport and to enjoy its benefits both for themselves and for society.  By adapting sports rules and equipment and demonstrating how a fishing net can become a volleyball net or a bundle of rags can become a football, Peace and Sport devised Sport Simple concept which, on one side can give children all over the world the opportunity to get involved into sport and get on that pathway, and on the other side can lead to a better life and to the chance of influencing the world around them in a more positive way.”

On this occasion, Mr. Joël Bouzou met Mr. Muhammad Yunus. They talked about the importance of the athletes’ social commitment and about concrete ways to make sport accessible to all, especially the most vulnerable populations. Mr. Muhammad Yunus raised a WhiteCard as a symbolic gesture expressing his support to the peace-through-sport movement.

Hosted by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, the annual forum invited leading figures and experts from around the world to speak about the emerging field of social business and to highlight the results that have been achieved to solve ongoing social and economic problems around the world.
