Biography / Awards

The youngest athlete at the 1960 Olympic Games, she went on to win 2 gold medals 4 years later in Tokyo. Not having access to a grant because they didn’t exist for female athletes at the time) she ended her career in 1965 and started campaigning for women’s rights. In 1974, she co-founded the Women’s Sport Foundation along with tennis legend Billie Jean King in order to increase the presence of women in sport. Olympian, Olympic Champion – 1964
