As a Champion for Peace, I will use the sport to bring people together and spread love spirit and peace. Sports made me who I am and prevented me from roaming the street. I want to inspire the youth and help them to success.
Biography / Awards
In 2010, Mutaz Essa Barshim was first spotted during his performance in the junior category. He became a record-holder in Qatar, then went on to win the Asian Championships at 18.
Son of a Qatari father and a Sudanese mother, he studied at the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence in Doha. Over the years he has stood out as an outstanding athlete, achieving the world’s all-time second-highest high jump performance, winning the world title in 2017.
He became a Champion for Peace to use his fame to help the peace-through-sport movement and to pass on the values that sport has given him.
