Fondation Vénuste Niyongabo
Promoting quality education, good health for all and integral human development
Burundi
Promoting global development, from education to health for all, using sport as a facilitator.
Based in Bujumbura and set up by Burundi’s only Olympic champion, Vénuste Niyongabo, the eponymous foundation’s mission is to support a socio-economically prosperous Burundi by helping young people and marginalised groups through the prism of sustainable development.
How does Peace and Sport support this project?
An event to celebrate sport as a tool for peace
Peace and Sport and the Vénuste Niyongabo Foundation are jointly organising the Friendship Games, an event to celebrate the Peace through Sport initiatives implemented in the region among young people. This event is also a way of inviting local, regional and national players to take part and raise their awareness of the initiatives undertaken.
Fundraising
In 2024, the Vénuste Niyongabo Foundation and Peace and Sport received financial support from the DCI, the Monegasque Department of International Cooperation, to set up new Peace through Sport initiatives in the region over the period 2024-2025, as well as recruiting and training new educators in the Peace and Sport Methodology.
